80% / 20%
80% of food should be raw
20 % of food can be cooked if you can't go 100% raw
Raw is nothing cooked over 110 degrees. Nutritional value will not be lost.
I purchased a $25 juicer and juice veggies (cup of fresh) 1-2 times a day. Tastes horrible, but it is medicine. I feel that I waste a lot of veggies, so I stopped juicing until I can afford one that doesn't have so much pulp left over. Any suggestions on really good juicers would be great!
Cup Of Fresh
spinach (handful)
kale (handful)
cabbage (cut a chunk off)
celery (2 spears)
cucumber (about 3-4 slices)
carrot (one)
garlic clove (one)
ginger (about 1/2 inch)
Do not eat or drink anything for 1-2 hours after.

Why Organic
The average child gets 5+ servings of pesticides in their food and water each day.The pesticide Atrazine is so toxic it is banned in Europe, but it is used so widely in the U.S., that it is found in 71% of the U.S. drinking water. Currently, over 400 pesticides can be legally used in the U.S. For example, apples can be sprayed up to 16 times with 36 different pesticides. None of these chemicals are present in organic foods.
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, organophosphate pesticides (OP) are now found in the blood of 95% of Americans tested, and the levels are twice as high in blood samples taken from children. Exposure to OPs is linked to hyperactivity, behavior disorders, learning disabilities, developmental delays and motor dysfunction.

Meat
Meats that are salted, cured, smoked or preserved with nitrate are considered processed meats. This includes bacon, sausage, ham, hot dogs, salami, luncheonmeat and other cured meats. They are usually high in fats and salt, which means they are not heart-friendly, either.

The American Cancer Society recommends limiting consumption of red meats, especially those that are high in fat and processed.
Select meat with leaner cuts.
For beef, choose eye of round, top round roast, top sirloin and flank.
For pork, choose tenderloin and loin chops.
Watch your portions. One serving of meat is the size of deck of cards.
Prepare meat with cooking methods that use less oil such as baking, broiling, or poaching. HORMEL FOODS employs an HPP technology system, called TRUETASTE Technology, on it's
"Hormel Natural Choice" products, resulting in meat that is 100% natural with no preservatives, no added nitrites and nitrates and no artificial colors or flavors. With no preservatives added, the meat retains its natural taste.

Unpasteurized Cheese
The danger: Unless you are getting your milk fresh from the cow, chances are it has been pasteurized—a heat treatment process designed to kill bacteria (including salmonella, listeria and E. coli) present in the milk. But even those who wouldn’t think of drinking unpasteurized milk may be unknowingly eating cheese made from that same untreated milk. Many soft cheeses—including brie, feta and goat cheese—are unpasteurized. Because of the risk of contamination, it is recommended that pregnant women, children, the elderly, and anyone else with a compromised immune system should avoid eating them. http://www.radiofargomoorhead.net/eatatyourownrisk.html
White is not so good
White bread, cornflakes and other foods high in carbohydrates can cause heart disease - and now scientists know why. Processed 'white' foods and drinks such as sodas have a high glycemic index, and they put stress on the arteries for several hours afterwards. Over time, the arteries' elasticity weakens, and it can lead to heart disease or even sudden death from heart attack
12 Food Additives to Avoid
1. Sodium Nitrate (also called Sodium Nitrite)
This is a preservative, coloring, and flavoring commonly added to bacon, ham, hot dogs, luncheon meats, smoked fish, and corned beef. Studies have linked eating it to various types of cancer.
2. BHA and BHT
Butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydrozyttoluene are used to preserve common household foods. They are found in cereals, chewing gum, potato chips, and vegetable oils. They are oxidants, which form potentially cancer-causing reactive compounds in your body.
3. Propyl Gallate
Another preservative, often used in conjunction with BHA and BHT. It is sometimes found in meat products, chicken soup base, and chewing gum. Animals studies have suggested that it could be linked to cancer.
4. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
MSG is an amino acid used as a flavor enhancer in soups, salad dressings, chips, frozen entrees, and restaurant food. It can cause headaches and nausea, and animal studies link it to damaged nerve cells in the brains of infant mice.
5. Trans Fats
Trans fats are proven to cause heart disease. Restaurant food, especially fast food chains, often serve foods laden with trans fats.
6. Aspartame
Aspartame, also known by the brand names Nutrasweet and Equal, is a sweetener found in so-called diet foods such as low-calorie desserts, gelatins, drink mixes, and soft drinks. It may cause cancer or neurological problems, such as dizziness or hallucinations.
7. Acesulfame-K
This is a relatively new artificial sweetener found in baked goods, chewing gum, and gelatin desserts. There is a general concern that testing on this product has been scant, and some studies show the additive may cause cancer in rats.
8. Food Colorings: Blue 1, 2; Red 3; Green 3; Yellow 6
Five food colorings still on the market are linked with cancer in animal testing. Blue 1 and 2, found in beverages, candy, baked goods and pet food, have been linked to cancer in mice. Red 3, used to dye cherries, fruit cocktail, candy, and baked goods, has been shown to cause thyroid tumors in rats. Green 3, added to candy and beverages, has been linked to bladder cancer. The widely used yellow 6, added to beverages, sausage, gelatin, baked goods, and candy, has been linked to tumors of the adrenal gland and kidney.
9. Olestra
Olestra, a synthetic fat found in some potato chip brands, can cause severe diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and gas. Olestra also inhibits healthy vitamin absorption from fat-soluble carotenoids that are found in fruits and vegetables.
10. Potassium Bromate
Potassium bromate is used as an additive to increase volume in some white flour, breads, and rolls. It is known to cause cancer in animals, and even small amounts in bread can create a risk for humans.
11. White Sugar
Watch out for foods with added sugars, such as baked goods, cereals, crackers, sauces and many other processed foods. It is unsafe for your health, and promotes bad nutrition.
I now use raw cane sugar--it is brown and bigger crystals and so yummy! When my family were visiting from Europe they were astonished to see white sugar. It is not used over there. Every home in the US has white sugar. I get mine from Trader Joes.
12. Sodium Chloride
A dash of sodium chloride, more commonly known as salt, can bring flavor to your meal. But too much salt can be dangerous for your health, leading to high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure.
