All unnatural nail polishes have: formaldehyde, toluene and dbp. Really bad for you. I use this:

The FDA still deems the chemical safe, and critics say these studies are too small. Other chemicals of concern in nail polish are formaldehyde, which can be absorbed through nails and skin, and is thought to be a carcinogen by the EPA and the National Toxicology Program, as well as toluene, which is a skin and respiratory tract irritant. In extreme amounts, it can cause liver damage.
Pregnant? Breast Feeding? Best Avoid Nail Polish If You Must, Go Formaldehyde- Toluene- and DBP-Free (It's All In There) July 13, 2007 at 12:00AM by Alexandra Zissu http://www.thedailygreen.com/living-green/blogs/organic-parenting/3808
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), a chemical used to keep nail polish from chipping. The European Union banned the use of DBP in 2004, forcing OPI to remove the chemical from its products sold there, but the company reports it has no plans to do so in the United States. They say there is no definitive proof that the ingredient is harmful, and that the level in their products is low enough to pose no health risk. Spokespeople added that most exposure comes from inhalation rather than cuticle or nail contact.

Plastics made from polycarbonate resin can leach bisphenol-A (BPA), a potent hormone disruptor. BPA, a chemical found in epoxy resin and polycarbonate plastics, may impair the reproductive organs and have adverse effects on tumors, breast tissue development and prostate development by reducing sperm count. Stay away from #3 and # 7. #1 is a one time use bottle. #2, 4, 5 are safer than the others. (the numbers are found in the triangle on the bottom of every plastic container.) We watchful of canned foods, especially those that are acidic, like tomatoes. Do not heat plastics in the microwave.

Paint

Confirmed: New shower curtain smell is gross
We just purchased a cloth shower curtain for the inside liner. Water does go through slightly and doesn't go outside of the tub, just the edge of the tub. So will need to buy another one to add to it. Makes me feel like I am at a hotel..this is what they use. ($15'ish from Bed Bath and Beyond)
It may not be news to regular Enviroblog readers, but it's official: new shower curtain smell is caused by toxic chemicals.
A study commissioned by the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice looked at the chemical composition of PVC shower curtains bought at a variety of retailers (from Sears to Bed Bath & Beyond). They found, unsurprisingly, that shower curtains contain high levels of phthalates. They also found high level of organotins, and the single shower curtain tested for off-gassing released 108 different volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Which kinds of VOCs? Not that there's any such thing as a good VOC, but these are some particularly nasty ones. In fact, seven of them are considered hazardous air pollutants by the EPA. All kinds of fun possible health effects too, from asthma attacks to liver toxicity.
But there is good news. Many retailers are offering a greater selection of PVC-free shower curtains, made of other types of plastic or fabrics. Sears (which owns Kmart) and Target both told reporter Tami Abdollah that their companies were phasing out PVC shower curtains altogether.

INGREDIENTS NOT TO USE IN BEAUTY PRODUCTS
Why don’t you run and get a bottle of any of the skin moisturizers that you are currently using. You might find that your personal care products contain one or probably more of many possibly dangerous ingredients.
Here are a few of the most common suspicious ingredients:
· Mineral Oil, Paraffin, and Petrolatum – Petroleum products that coat the skin like plastic, clogging pores and creating a build-up of toxins, which in turn accumulate and can lead to dermatologic issues. Slows cellular development, which can cause you to show earlier signs of aging. Suspected cause of cancer. Disruptive of hormonal activity. By the way, when there’s an oil spill in the ocean, don’t they rush to clean it up – fast? Why put that stuff on your skin?
· Parabens – Widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic industry (including moisturizers). An estimated 13,200 cosmetic and skin care products contain parabens. Studies implicate their connection with cancer. They have hormone-disrupting qualities – mimicking estrogen – and interfere with the body’s endocrine system.
· Phenol carbolic acid– Found in many lotions and skin creams. Can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma and even death from respiratory failure.
· Propylene glycol– Used as a moisturizer in cosmetics and as a carrier in fragrance oils. Shown to cause dermatitis, kidney or liver abnormalities, and may inhibit skin cell growth or cause skin irritation.this derivative from petro-chemicals can also be found in your car’s anti-freeze! It rapidly penetrates the skin, and it’s also been associated with kidney damage, and central nervous system problems.
· Acrylamide– Found in many hand and face creams. Linked to mammary tumors in lab research.
· Sodium laurel or lauryl sulfate (SLS), also known as sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)– Found in car washes, engine degreasers, garage floor cleaners… and in over 90% of personal care products! SLS breaks down the skin’s moisture barrier, easily penetrates the skin, and allows other chemicals to easily penetrate. Combined with other chemicals, SLS becomes a “nitrosamine”, a potent class of carcinogen. It can also cause hair loss. SLES is sometimes disguised with the labeling “comes from coconut” or “coconut-derived”. These are the most potentially carcinogenic (cancer-causing) compounds in the entire personal-care industry.
· Toluene – Poison! Danger! Harmful or fatal if swallowed! Harmful if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Made from petroleum or coal tar, and found in most synthetic fragrances. Chronic exposure linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage, and may affect a developing fetus. Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) contains toluene. Other names may include benzoic and benzyl.
· Dioxane– Found in compounds known as PEG, Polysorbates, Laureth, ethoxylated alcohols. Common in a wide range of personal care products. The compounds are usually contaminated with high concentrations of highly volatile 1,4-dioxane, easily absorbed through the skin.
Dioxane’s carcinogenicity was first reported in 1965 and later confirmed in studies including one from the National Cancer Institute in 1978. Nasal passages and liver are the most vulnerable. Dioxane is easily removed during the manufacturing process by “vacuum stripping”. Warning: It is a synthetic derivative of coconut. Watch for hidden language on labels, such as “comes from coconut”.
· PEG (polyethylene glycol): these ‘foaming agents’ often contain the carcinogens dioxane and ethylene oxide, which have been linked to leukaemia, and brain, uterine and breast cancers
· Ethoxylation-myreth, oleth, laureth, ceteareth, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, polyoxyethylene, oxynol.
